Tom's Report
Hey Gary,
It totally rips. I can't believe how much a handplane can make bodysurfing totally functional. I ride everything from a longboard, a fish and a bodyboard but from my few sessions so far bodysurfing with a hand plane, I've found it can make almost every type of wave enjoyable. This morning I took out a new one that I shaped, based a little closer to the style you do. I joined two pieces of teak and put a ply stringer in there. Curved swallow tail and I used an angle grinder to carve in a channel through the underside. Though I went a little wild and had to use some bondo in one section. I almost carved right through to the deck haha. It's all a learning curve. I'll forward you through a couple of pictures of the new one. Feel free to critique me. I did notice when surfing with it this morning it felt a little soft in the tail (if that makes sense) do you think I may have carved the channel too deep?

A Message from Lennox
Hey mate.
Some how i stumbled upon your blog today, whilst home sick from work. I got all inspired and overly excited and knocked this up today. Pressed from structural ply veneers with a slight bit of rocker and concave and a poly-urethane finish. The best part is additional materials only cost me 90 cents! I have never bodysurfed using a handplane before, so tomorrow is going to be pretty exciting. Even if im still sick im getting out there!!! Just wanted to drop you a line to say thanks for the inspiration, and by the looks of all the lovely handplanes you have shaped, you are a master at your craft.
Cheers

Looks pretty incredible Tom. Wish my kids were that productive when they stay home sick. Let us know how it goes. G

Birds Surf Shed now with Brownfish Sliders
I've known Bird now for over 25 years. In fact, I used to get Bessel boards from him when he had the original WindanSea surf shop above Windansea. Years later he then brought me over to SC to surf for them. Bird contacted me when he first was opening the shed, but, I'm trying to go slow with bringing on new Venders. Mainly cause it's just Rebecca and I, and we are barely keeping up with what we have. We, I was finally able to get Bird some handplanes. Two Short and Fats and a Brownfish. He will be in the rotation and should get another round soon. Here is where you can get your hands on them:
