Personally the GoPro mounts have always been a struggle for me. I love the concept of being able to mount a GoPro Camera to a Handplane. I think the possibilities are endless and there are definitely different photo angles one can achieve using a handplane with a GoPro than other conventional ways of taking photos. My struggle comes in the fact that the mounts just don't fit my designs too well. I like the nose to be thin, the typical FCS mount is do-able but because of its thickness it just doesn't come out clean on a thin nosed handplane. I refuse to alter my design to be able to mount anything so that isn't an option. So, this is what I have come up with and is also how I mounted the Brownfish Around the World Handplane. It is not removeable. So, it isn't as nice as having a FCS plug on the nose. But if you don't mind having a small mount sticking up on your nose then it is a reasonable alternative. I think many could retrofit thier present handplanes that either I've made or one they made for themselves with this DIY info. So, here it goes.
FIRST THING YOU ARE GONNA NEED IS THE MALE PART OF THE FCS PLUG MOUNT.
CUT THE MALE PART OFF, SAND SMOOTH, BOTH ON THE BOTTOM AND AROUND THE SIDES. I USE 60 GRIT SO I GET MAXIMUM ADHESION
SET YOUR MOUNT ON THE BOARD EXACTLY WHERE YOU WANT IT. THEN USE A PENCIL AND DRAW THE OUTLINE AROUND IT WITH A PENCIL.
TAKE A DREMEL TOOL, OR IF YOU ARE GOOD WITH A ROUTER YOU CAN USE THAT ALSO, DREMEL OUT THE AREA, ABOUT 1/8 OF AN INCH DEEP. I USUALLY TRY AND MAKE IT CLOSE TO FLUSH.
TAPE OFF BOTH THE HOLE, AND ALSO THE MOUNT
CHECK BACK TOMORROW FOR THE LAST FEW STEPS AND FINISHED PRODUCT.
