Today I delivered my first shipment of Shop Boards. They went to South Coast Windansea in Pacific Beach at the foot of Felspar. The second batch went to the New Surfy Surfy Shop on Coast Highway 101 in Leucadia. Surfy Surfy will be having their grand opening celebration tomarrow night, Saturday, May 1st, at 6:00 pm, in conjuction with the Leucadia nights celebration. Public is welcome to come check out all of the madness that is SURFY SURFY.
Once these two shops are rolling, then I will be expanding up the coast one shop per county at a time. Then, if all goes well Hawaii and the East Coast.
I have had just as many inquiry's from around the world as I have had at home regarding handplanes. Many of you may already know, but for the ones that don't, bodysurfing/handboarding is way bigger in other parts of the world than in the continental US. The deterent for getting my handplanes out to the rest of the world, up to now, has always been shipping. I have been quoted by FEDEX that shipping to these places would be around $60-80. That to me, just doesn't make sense for someone wanting to buy or have a handplane made for them. I really never checked anywhere else, mainly because what FEDEX charges me in the US, is very reasonable and comparable to other carriers and the USPS. Well, yesterday I was forced to go to the US Post Office to ship a board to one of our Military folks in Japan. FEDEX wouldn't take the address. So, while there, I checked on shipping to other parts of the world. Low and behold, I was astonished. I can ship boards to most places in the world, for $20 shipping fee, through the US Post Office. So, to all of you that have enquired in the past, hopefully this might help get the cost down a bit.
Here is a great video handplaning/boarding and bodysurfing that I just found from Hawaii. To say that these guys are good would be an absolute understatement.
Just finished up a fresh batch. Lots of Pinliners being ordered. Here is a quick look. Surfy Surfy will have 4-5 clear boards to open the shop with on May 1st. South Coast Windansea will also be getting the same around the same time. Look for em in the shops. They will both also have a demo board for you to try out if you want a sample.
Brownfish Handplanes will be having a booth at the Sacred Craft Expo this coming weekend, April 10 and 11, in Ventura. I will also be shaping a Handplane in the Shaping Bay at 12:30pm on Sunday. Feel free to stop by and talk handplanes or anything else on your mind. If I've shaped you a handplane in the past, would love to hear your stories. Please introduce yourselves. As Handplanes aren't the most cumbersome objects, I will have some comfy chairs to rest your feet after perusing the other fine craft on display at the show. My wife will also be making some homemade chocolate chip cookies for any of you that are into that kind of thing. The event will be held at the Ventura County fairgrounds. Hours are 10am-6pm on Saturday and 10am-4pm on Sunday. Hope to see you all their.
